Lent is a season of renewal and reconnection! Lent affords us the opportunity to slow down, strengthen our prayer life, and grow closer to Christ and one another.
As a Family Wellness Ministry, this is a wonderful time to help make connections with people within your church community, encouraging and supporting one another on the journey of Great Lent.
Consider trying these wonderful idea:
Family Wellness “Lenten Godparent Project”
Willing parishioners sign up and are paired with children in the parish to become “Lenten God-parents” encouraging kids and teens to walk the Lenten journey together as a church family.
Family Wellness Ministry Goal: to build relationships within the parish family, provide support and encouragement for all family members.
• write a handwritten weekly letter of encouragement
• commit to praying for their Lenten God-child
• are introduced on Forgiveness Vespers (usually a potluck brings everyone together the night before Great Lent begins)
• attend Holy Unction together (although you are encouraged to come together for several weekday services throughout Lent)
To come up with a list of children who are interested in participating, work together with your Sunday School leaders to determine the best way to pair “Lenten God parents”
